It was a moodier atmosphere for C+H’s November beach engagement session at Crystal Cove State Park Beach in Newport, CA, and honestly, it could not have been more perfect for the vision they had in mind. The soft, overcast skies allowed me to capture the gentle, earthy tones that naturally emerge when the sun hides just enough to soften the landscape. I loved editing these images, the softness, and muted tones were such a fun change!
One thing I love about the state park beach is the variety it offers. The rocky areas bring so much visual interest, adding texture and depth to every frame. The beach offered so much charm—places to walk, explore, pause, and just soak in the scenery. For C+H, who were visiting from out of town, the beach quickly felt welcoming and comfortable. That ease translated into moments that were genuinely joyful and relaxed, which is exactly what makes a session feel authentic.
What made the day even more special was how effortlessly they connected with the environment and with each other. Their natural chemistry made it easy to capture candid moments—laughs, quiet embraces, and everything in between.
I’ll be traveling up to Napa in the spring for their wedding, and it truly can’t come soon enough. After spending such a meaningful afternoon with them, I’m already excited to see their next chapter unfold in such a beautiful setting.
In other news…
I’m five months in to living in Southern California and it’s truly been a refreshing change from the midwest. I have several California weddings on my books for 2026 and I’m still accepting 4-5 more. I’m also now accepting wedding bookings for 2027. If you’d like to inquire, please fill out my contact form here: laurenleephoto.com/contact
